Did Beowulf heed Hrothgar's warning?
Last week we discussed how Hrothgar, after congratulating Beowulf, warned him about becoming prideful. He told him the story of the king, who after many successes and after gaining many riches, lost his gratitude and became greedy and prideful. The king then thought he was above everyone else and when danger came, he did NOT see the warning signs.
As you read the story of Beowulf's reign, do you think he listened to Hrothgar and avoided pride? Did he recognize signs of danger?
Post your thoughts below.

m'kay, two questions, completely off topic:
ReplyDelete1) why have the blogs run dry? like, no one is posting or commenting. at all. what's up with that?!?!
2) what is that picture? 'cause it looks familiar. don't know why.
that is all.
Matt
I'M posting.
ReplyDeleteI don't think he completely listened to Hrothgar. I mean, when it came time for him to fight the dragon, he didn't want the soldiers to help him. I guess he thought since he slayed Grendel and his mother, he could take this dragon any day! Wrongo for Beowulf. And that's just it! Because of his pride, he lost his life. Good thing Wiglaf came to his aid when the others wouldn't.
I tend to agree with you Cephia, what does everyone else think?
ReplyDeleteHi Matthew, start chatting it up! The more people talk, the busier it will be. I'll see if I can find a few good questions tucked away in my hat to start things going.
ReplyDeleteOh, the picture is from the movie Beowulf (Which I've been told by several people is awful, so cant recommend it. Hrothgar is the red-headed dude. Looks very Irish to me.
ReplyDeleteBack to the dragon attacks, it seemed like the dragon attacked for awhile before Beowulf reacted. What do you all think?
